The FCA Warns Funeral Plan Customers to Be Wary of Unexpected Funeral Plan Calls

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) is warning funeral plan customers to be on high alert for scams.

According to the FCA, scammers may be targeting people with funeral plans using unexpected calls that might use scare tactics to try to pressure you into transferring money or “topping up” your plan. They can use recent news stories to create “fake issues” such as exploiting the recent “Legacy Independent Funeral Directors” closure.

What The FCA say:

  • The FCA emphasises that these calls are likely a scam.
  • Don’t engage if you get any unexpected calls from your funeral plan provider asking you to transfer money to top up your funeral plan.
  • Legitimate funeral plan providers will not pressure you to make immediate payments over the phone, especially regarding unexpected issues.

What to Do Instead:

  • Don’t Engage: If you receive a call about your funeral plan that you weren’t expecting, the safest course of action is to hang up immediately.
  • Verify Directly: If you have a funeral plan and are concerned about its validity, contact your provider directly. Use the phone number you know is correct, or look up their details on the FCA Financial Services Register: https://register.fca.org.uk/.
  • Staying Safe: By staying vigilant and following these tips, you can protect yourself from falling victim to these scams. Remember, a legitimate funeral plan provider will understand if you need to take time to verify information before making any decisions.

If you have been contacted by anyone about your Fosters Funeral Plan and you have any concerns please don’t hesitate to contact us immediately on 0800 121 8090 to verify.
