‘Can I hold a funeral in a hotel?’
The answer is yes. However, the majority of funeral services in Scotland take place within a religious venue, a funeral parlour or a crematorium.
This brief article offers points to consider when arranging a funeral in a hotel, or a unique venue. Fosters compassionate staff are available to help you personalise a funeral. We will take care of all the details and have the necessary experience to make the funeral service will run smoothly.
It is legally possible to hold a funeral in a hotel in Scotland. On the basis that the property owner has granted permission, a funeral service can take place at a range of other locations including:
- The function suite of a bar or venue
- A community hall
- A private garden
- A private home
- A woodland
Points to Consider
- Coffin – The first point to consider when arranging a funeral in a hotel is a practical one. When bringing a coffin into a building a specific door height and width will be required to ensure a dignified entry and exit from the venue. Not every location will be suitable. Crematoria and religious venues are custom built, and the majority have hearing loops, accessible toilets, and disabled parking spaces.
- Privacy – Will your venue of choice be able to ensure that the service is uninterrupted by other hotel guests, deliveries or in the case of an outside location, passers-by?
- Transportation – if a funeral takes place in a woodland then obviously a standard hearse will not be suitable for crossing fields or farmers tracks. Alternative transport could be a horse and cart or other farm vehicles.
