‘Friends of Bankhead’ community group receives a bursary award of £500 from Fosters Rutherglen.
The Friends of Bankhead community group, which is set up and ran by parents, regularly organise fundraising activities and events for the Bankhead Primary School.
This includes extra‐curricular trips, to provide every child equal access to learning opportunities. However, due to Covid‐19 restrictions, the group has been unable to support children with the same opportunities over the past 12 months. The bursary funding will allow Friends of Bankhead to provide an outdoor space for young children at the primary school to learn practical skills such as growing their own food. It will also fund outdoor clothing to keep them warm and dry on rainy days.
Susan McAneney, representing Friends of Bankhead, said:
“We’re hugely thankful to the kind team at Fosters Rutherglen for such a wonderful donation. As an area affected by social poverty, we have always played our part in supporting families and children throughout Rutherglen. And there has never been a more important time to do so. With this grant, we can reintroduce outdoor learning classes and fun, activity‐filled sessions. This will provide opportunities for growth and development for the children and they’ll learn in an entertaining and interactive manner.”
Terry Buchan, area manager for Fosters said “Fosters Rutherglen wanted to directly support the local community that we’re proud to serve. It’s been a really challenging time for everyone, but especially for kids who have missed out on time with their friends and the benefits of group learning. So, it’s a pleasure to give Friends of Bankhead the grant to support their plans for fun and interactive sessions for Bankhead Primary School pupils.’
