Hats Off to Knitting Legend Betty!

Yvonne and Caroline (funeral arrangers) had the incredible privilege of meeting the fabulous Betty who has knitted over 1100 baby hats for charity!

At 87 years young, Betty has been tirelessly knitting baby hats for us since she saw our knitting appeal in the Rutherglen Reformer. To date, she has created an astonishing 1,130 baby hats, each unique in shape, size, and colour.

Betty’s dedication to this cause is truly inspiring. She donates all of her handmade hats to the maternity hospital in Glasgow, where Yvonne’s friends work as midwives. These hats, each a unique creation, not only keep her focused but also bring her immense joy. More importantly, they bring comfort and warmth to newborn babies and their families, making a significant impact on their lives.

What’s even more remarkable is Betty’s knitting prowess. She’s able to knit these hats while watching television without even referring to a pattern! She says, “It’s a great excuse to postpone the housework!”.

To express our gratitude for Betty’s incredible contribution, we presented her with a delicious ‘Thank You’ cupcake made by Yvonne’s sister Michelle, a beautiful bouquet from Marion’s Florist, and an extra supply of baby wool from Fosters to keep her creative spirit going.

Betty’s story is a testament to the power of kindness and the enduring joy of crafting. Her 1,130 baby hats are more than just garments; they are symbols of her love, dedication, and the positive impact one person can make.
