Learn why our Video Call service keeps you connected.

‘Zoom’ has become a new word in our vocabulary. Once associated with the sound a rocket makes, or an ice lolly it’s become all the rage when it comes to lockdown communication. Even amongst those of us who say wireless rather than radio and like our tea made in a pot!

Fosters offer Zoom call service - an older grey haired lady sits in front of her laptop on a zoom call. She raises her hand to wave at the person on screen and has dark framed glasses

When asked to predict what 2020 might look like you’d have needed an overactive imagination to come up with our current reality. A strange time where face coverings are the new normal and a cuddle with your grandchild is a luxury. The newspapers have been full of stories about how businesses are adapting and how exhausted parents are juggling their time between work and home schooling. But what about retired folks who enjoy a more leisurely pace of life? It has certainly been a challenging time for older generations too.

For years local libraries have offered computing lessons for so called ‘Silver Surfers’ opening up a whole new world of holiday deals and chatting with distant relatives on Facebook. Then in lockdown social get-togethers were swapped for Zoom video calls, with family and friends peering into the screen to chat and laugh and to just check in. The ‘checking in’ part is key. We all need someone to talk to and a friendly face to brighten our day.

At Fosters we recognised that our traditional methods to support customers had to adapt so earlier this year we set up a Zoom video call service. This format enables you to have a virtual face to face conversation with a member of our team. It’s free and we offer this for chatting through pre-paid funeral plans as well as organising the funeral of a loved one. Zoom can be set up securely for several people to join the video call so if you want to invite a relative or friend, they’d be most welcome.

So far we’ve found that it works well for those who are open to the new technology. It’s not quite the same as having a cup of tea together but as a close second, it’s pretty good. Our phone service is of course still available if that’s more your style.
